On January 30, 2024, we organized a DHPPiL vaccination camp in Gokarneshwor Municipality, Ward No. 4 in Nepal. This was more than just a vaccination drive; it was a testament to the power of community, compassion, and commitment. From early morning, our team of dedicated veterinarians, vet techs, and dog handlers were on the ground, setting up for a day that promised to be both challenging and rewarding. The camp kicked off at 9:00 AM and, by the end of the day, we had vaccinated 92 dogs, most of whom were free-roaming community dogs.

The DHPPiL vaccine is crucial for preventing several serious diseases: Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, and Leptospirosis. These diseases can have devastating effects on dogs, and in the case of Leptospirosis, even humans. By providing these vaccinations, we are not only protecting the dogs but also safeguarding the health of the community.

The response from the local community was overwhelming. Dog lovers brought their family dogs, eager to ensure their furry friends were protected. Many were curious and engaged, attending our educational sessions and reading the informational pamphlets we distributed. It was heartening to see school students taking an interest, learning about the importance of vaccinations and responsible dog care.

One of the most memorable aspects of the day was the connection we felt with the community. People from all walks of life came together, united by a shared goal of improving the lives of their family dogs and street animals. This sense of unity and purpose was palpable and inspiring. We kept detailed records, noting not only the vaccinations but also the number of intact and neutered dogs. Out of the 92 dogs vaccinated, 56 were males and 36 were females. We found that 26 of these dogs were neutered or spayed, highlighting the importance of continuing our efforts in animal birth control.

This camp was a significant step towards reducing the prevalence of viral diseases in the local canine population. By keeping meticulous records, we can track the effectiveness of our efforts and identify areas needing more attention in the future.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the people of Gokarneshwor Municipality, especially those in Ward No. 4, for their enthusiastic participation. This camp was a success because of you. Your involvement and commitment to the well-being of your family dogs and community animals made a world of difference.

As we look to the future, our resolve is stronger than ever. We are committed to continuing this vital work, reaching more homeless animals, and increasing herd immunity. But we can't do it alone. We need your support, your involvement, and your compassion. Together, we can create a healthier, happier environment for all the dogs and cats in our community.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with us. Let's continue to make a difference together, one vaccination at a time.
